Retention

h-retainerLa Mesa & El Cajon Area Orthodontics

At Stormberg Orthodontics, we pride ourselves on giving our patients beautiful, healthy smiles that last a lifetime. With our many types of braces we strive to ensure that the treatment phase for our patients is as comfortable and efficient as possible; however, that dedication doesn’t end when your braces are removed. From the moment Dr. Stormberg removes your braces, you begin the very important phase of retention, and we want to do everything we can to protect the new smile you’ve worked so hard for.

A Variety of Options

Crucial to your orthodontic success, the retention phase begins immediately after your braces are removed and lasts throughout your life. Your retainer is something that stays with you for many years to come, so it is important that you choose the one that best suits your wants and needs. Stormberg Orthodontics offers a variety of retainer options and Dr. Stormberg will work with you to decide the best fit for your smile and lifestyle. Your retainer is something that we highly recommend wearing no less than every other night for life.

Invisalign®

Vivera is a series of retainers that can be purchased in addition to your Invisalign treatment.

Spring Retainers

The Spring Retainer is an retainer that serves dual functions. First, it is an appliance for active orthodontic treatment that is effective in aligning slightly crowded teeth. It also serves as a post-treatment retainer, to keep the aligned teeth in place.

Made by constructing a model of your teeth, the Spring Retainer includes a wire spring that gives the appliance/retainer the flexibility to fit properly. You may experience some soreness while wearing this retainer, which means that it is working. This retainer should be removed to eat and drink.

Hawley Retainers

The most common type of retainer, the Hawley Retainer is made of a combination of metal wires and sturdy acrylic, and is designed to keep your teeth in place. Specifically made from impressions of your teeth, these retainers fit snugly and comfortably in the roof of your mouth and keep your teeth in perfect position. You can also personalize your retainer with numerous different color options from Neon, Glow in the Dark, Glitter and Neutral color options.

Fixed Wire Retainers

This type of retainer is always working because it is attached or bonded behind your front teeth. Since you can't take it out, you can't forget it or lose it! You do have to take a little extra care of it by avoiding hard, sticky foods near the front teeth that are attached to the retainer. Flossing under the wire daily is of great importance. Be aware, should a tooth/teeth come unattached or the bond is broken, to report any problems to our office ASAP to avoid tooth movement. Continue regular visits to your dentist. If they observe poor hygiene, the fixed wire retainer will be recommended to be removed and replaced with a removable retainer, at additional costs.
