Avoidance Therapy For Teeth Grinding
Your San Diego orthodontist and his team make it their daily mission to move their patients one step closer to a beautiful new smile — often with braces or Invisalign. But Dr. Stormberg also treats other dental disorders that may cause you discomfort such as teeth grinding, called Bruxism. This condition causes you to grind, gnash or clench your teeth when you are awake or during sleep and can cause snoring and sleep apnea. Stormberg Orthodontics offers the following avoidance therapy treatment for those suffering from sore teeth from grinding or clenching.

Pain Relief From Teeth Grinding
Grinding or clenching your teeth can result in both a headache and sore teeth. Dr. Stormberg recommends taking 600mg of ibuprofen with food three times a day for two days to relieve the discomfort.
Eat A Soft Diet
Think of all those soft things we love — mac ‘n cheese, sweet potato pie, blueberries, yogurt, bananas, meatballs, peas, scrambled eggs, oatmeal, eggplant parmesan. You get the picture….and I’m getting hungry.
Apply Moist Heat
Place a washcloth under hot water, squeeze out extra water and place it on the sore area to relieve discomfort.
Avoid Caffeine
You need your sleep. Soreness can keep you awake so don’t add to it by drinking caffeine. Avoid all caffeine after 12 p.m.
